My Philosophy
I believe ALL students can learn.
A student completing her
work independently for the first time!
When I see a student, I see that, a student. I do not see a disability. I see the possibility. I understand that there will be challenges and struggles, but it is my responsibility to figure out how to help the child succeed to his best ability.
Ignagio Estrada’s quote resounds with me and has become one of the quote that I strive my classroom to be: “If a child can't learn the way we teach, maybe we should teach the way they learn.”

I believe that we need to develop a love of learning in each student which creates a student who craves learning for a lifetime.
Our High School Reading Buddies
As students grow and develop, they must know how to learn things for themselves. It is our job to guide the student to figure out his strengths and weakness and provide them with the opportunities to pursue those interests.
I believe that we need to prepare students for the future, even when we are not sure what that future might look like.
Use of classroom technology takes place throughout the day.
The world is changing so quickly. Technology and what can be done with it is amazing. We must look at the tools available and the needs of the students to figure out what can be done to create the most successful combination.
This is especially the case when individuals may need a little extra help to succeed. As Richard Lavoie explains, "Fair isn't giving everyone the same, fair is giving students what they need."

I believe we need to create caring and compassionate classrooms and demonstrate how that translates to society.
Besties!
With the classroom, the students need to feel loved and accepted. Classrooms need to emulate a caring and compassionate society. Everyone is accepted and their uniqueness celebrated and taken into account. This expectation is for all who walk through the door of the classroom.
I believe teachers need to model the skills and behaviors that we want our students to demonstrate.

As educators, we are to be the models for the students. Each day, we need to demonstrate the skills and behaviors that we expect from our students. We shall treat all individuals with respect and cultivate that respect amongst the students. We need to show that we are always learning. We need to be open to being the "learner" and allow the students be the "teachers".
